Terms of Service

1. Who can use LowkeyAsk

• You must be 18 or older, and old enough to agree to these terms where you live.
• You can’t use LowkeyAsk if we’ve previously banned you, or if the law where you live forbids it.

2. How LowkeyAsk works

• Creators sign in, create a time-limited link with a prompt, and share it (for example in an Instagram story). Messages stay locked until the link closes.
• Senders can send one message per link, as a guest or signed in. Creators see the message, never who sent it.
• Reveals: a creator can ask a signed-in sender who allowed it to reveal themselves. Only the sender can decide, and their answer is final. Guest messages can never be revealed.

LowkeyAsk isn’t affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Instagram or Meta. Handles are chosen by users and aren’t verified, so don’t assume a handle belongs to the Instagram account of the same name.

3. Your account

Keep access to your email account secure: anyone who can read your sign-in codes can use your LowkeyAsk account. You’re responsible for what happens on your account. Choose a handle that’s yours; don’t impersonate anyone. You can delete your account at any time on your account page.

4. Community rules

Anonymous doesn’t mean anything goes. Don’t use LowkeyAsk to post, send or share anything that:

• harasses, bullies, insults, humiliates or intimidates anyone;
• threatens violence or harm, or blackmails or extorts anyone;
• encourages or glorifies self-harm or suicide;
• is sexual and involves, is sent to, or is about anyone under 18, or is sexual and unwanted;
• shares someone’s private information (such as their phone number, address, school or private images) without consent, or threatens to;
• is hateful towards people because of their religion, caste, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability or similar characteristics;
• impersonates someone, or misleads people about who you are;
• is spam, a scam, or promotes anything illegal;
• infringes someone’s copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights;
• is otherwise unlawful, including anything prohibited by the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the rules under it, or threatens the unity, integrity, defence, security or sovereignty of India, public order, or friendly relations with other countries.

Also don’t:

• try to find out who sent a message, other than through a reveal the sender accepts;
• get around blocks, rate limits or the one-message-per-link rule, for example with new accounts or devices;
• use bots, scripts or scraping, or interfere with how LowkeyAsk runs;
• use LowkeyAsk for commercial messaging or advertising without our permission.

5. Moderation and enforcement

Messages are checked automatically before they’re sent, using an AI model, and messages that seem to break these rules aren’t sent. Automated checks make mistakes in both directions, so creators can also hide, block and report messages, and anyone can report content to our Grievance Officer (section 11).

We may remove content, block senders, and suspend or delete accounts that break these terms or the law, with or without notice. Where the law requires, we’ll preserve information and share it with law enforcement or courts. Senders are anonymous to creators and other users, not to the law.

6. Your content

You own what you write. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, process, check and display it as needed to run LowkeyAsk: for example, to show your message to the creator you sent it to, and to review it if it’s reported. This licence ends when the content is deleted, except for copies we must keep for safety or legal reasons (see the Privacy Policy).

Creators: messages sent to you are from other people. Don’t share a message publicly in a way that could identify its sender or break these rules.

7. Paid features

LowkeyAsk is free today. If we add paid features, we’ll show the price and what you get before you pay, payments will be processed by our payment provider (Razorpay), and our Refund Policy will apply. We’ll never sell hints about who sent a message.

8. Disclaimers

LowkeyAsk is provided “as is” and “as available”. We don’t promise it will always be available or error-free, that messages will always be delivered, or that every harmful message will be caught. Messages are written by users, not by us, and we aren’t responsible for what they say. LowkeyAsk is an intermediary under the Information Technology Act, 2000.

9. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, or for loss of data, reputation or profits, arising from your use of LowkeyAsk. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and ₹[amount]. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law.

10. Ending things

You can stop using LowkeyAsk and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or if we stop offering LowkeyAsk; where reasonable, we’ll tell you first. You agree to compensate us for losses caused by your serious breach of these terms or the law.

11. Grievance Officer and complaints

Under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, you can complain about content on LowkeyAsk, or about how we’ve handled your account or data, to our Grievance Officer:

We acknowledge complaints within 24 hours and resolve them within 15 days. Complaints about content that exposes someone’s private areas, shows nudity or sexual acts, or impersonates someone in such images are acted on within 24 hours. Include the link and the message (or a screenshot) so we can find it; you don’t need to know who sent it.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Disputes go to the courts of [city], India, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim there.

13. Changes

We may update these terms. We’ll change the date at the top and, for significant changes, tell you by email or in the app before they take effect. If you keep using LowkeyAsk after that, you accept the new terms.
